Suunto Race S – The latest addition to the Suunto Race family

Sports — 25 June 2024

The newbie in the Race family is designed for athletes who want to improve their performance and challenge themselves, and simply put – look for a smaller watch to match their wrist and style. It comes with the same features as Suunto Race – just in a smaller package.

VANTAA (25. June 2024).

Suunto Race was first launched on October 13, 2023. In a bit over seven months, by the end of May 2024, Suunto Race users have run 6 045 349 kilometers, cycled 4 223 211 kilometers, climbed 280 million meters and tracked their activity for a total of 1 918 461 hours.

Now, we introduce you to the smaller Suunto Race S, the smaller Suunto Race. With its compact size and light weight - It fits even more wrists, and together with its bright AMOLED display the screen comes to life in daylight and nighttime - just like in Suunto RACE.

“With Suunto Race S, you’ve got your companion for training and racing. The smaller and lighter design adds comfort, so you can focus on your sport, and enjoy using the watch anytime of the day!”
Daniel Das Bhowmik, Head of Product

With over 95 diverse sport modes, ranging from trail running and cycling to swimming and yoga, each equipped with carefully selected default data fields, Suunto Race S caters to every sports enthusiast.

The Race S watch is made to last in toughest circumstances. While you’re on your long runs or pushing limits in another sport, the battery can last up to 30 hours when training nonstop with best GPS accuracy. When you want to go longer, simply optimize your GPS settings for more battery hours, and enjoy the outdoors. The battery can last even up to 5 days with the “Tour” battery mode on.

Train for your sport by tracking your training load, progress, and recovery, with metrics such as heart rate variability (HRV), and be on top of your game on race day. The benefit of HRV is that it serves as an indicator of the balance within the autonomic nervous system and offers valuable insights into an individual's overall health and stress levels. More variation generally means the parasympathetic nervous system is doing its job as a regulator.

In addition to tracking training stats and providing personalized feedback on how things are going, the Suunto Race S watch monitors steps, calories, heart rate and sleep (including sleep stages), so you get the best possible support for your everyday wellbeing. The watch provides useful tips and tricks to help in everyday life, such as alarms, music controls, weather forecasts and much more.

“Navigation saved my race”
Suunto ambassador, Christian Meier, after winning the TDS at the UTMB.

When out in the nature, you can use the premium outdoor features, such as detailed outdoor offline maps, globally available free of charge, the top-tier GNSS system for precise location tracking even between tallest buildings and highest mountains, and a barometer for accurate altitude readings and storm alarms. There’s been plenty of occasions, when a Suunto map has saved people when navigating – like last year in Chamonix during UTMB, when our ambassador Christian Meier could trust his Suunto watch navigation and ended up taking his biggest international ultra-running win, and truth be told, even while driving in Spanish mountains when filming the Race S creative campaign footage!

While the watch provides great assistance for helping to perform in sports at best level, the smaller size and lightness of Race S adds comfort in everyday life. With its launch, we bring six different looks to the product lineup, all made of stainless steel and designed in Finland. The watch is compatible with 22 mm straps, so you can easily change the style of your watch with our Suunto accessory straps.

“For the Race S we created a range of styles from subtle designs to vibrant racing looks. The small size makes the watch lightweight and comfortable to wear everyday and during long races. It's amazing how small we were able to make it without sacrificing performance.”
Mikko Ahlström, Suunto’s Head of Design.

With this new launch, we continue our efforts towards sustainability. The product will be carbon offset with Verified Carbon Units. This offsetting initiative involves planting coastal mangrove forests, which not only stabilize shorelines but also remove pollutants, improve water quality, and provide crucial nursery habitats for fisheries.

But, the Suunto teams doesn’t stop here! We continuously improve the software of our products, and you can expect new software updates and improvements to your Suunto Race S even after purchase. In addition, with SuuntoPlus™ store, you get to enhance your watch with more sports apps and guides, and get connected to partner devices. With the additional real-time insights and guides, you can get even more support for your runs and rides.

We strive to bring more value to our purchased watches over time, and more info will be communicated about upcoming updates and improvements to our ecosystem via our Suunto App.

As mentioned, the Suunto Race S watch will be available in six different versions, each compatible with a wide variety of accessory straps for sports and everyday use. It is set to hit selected markets for purchase in summer 2024.

Stay tuned!
