Watch release coincides with Spartan software update adding interval training and altitude navigation
Suunto announces today that its new Spartan Sport Wrist HR sports watch is available at retail on March 30, 2017. The newest member of the Suunto Spartan collection combines Suunto’s hallmark robust and stylish design and an extensive set of sport features with the convenience of wrist-based heart rate measurement powered by U.S.-based Valencell, the leading innovator in wearable biometric data sensor technology.
To coincide with the introduction date of Spartan Sport Wrist HR, Suunto will provide a software update for its full range of Spartan products, which will add interval training support and altitude profile navigation.
Recent Spartan software updates have included improvements to GPS tracking accuracy, the addition of altitude and barometric pressure trends (Spartan Ultra), POIs in navigation, and the ability to view 30-day activity summaries.
Accuracy and 24/7 convenience with optical heart rate
Suunto’s optical heart rate measurement offers convenience both in daily activity tracking and during sport activities. Spartan Sport Wrist HR serves both as an activity tracker, monitoring 24/7 heart rate (including resting heart rate), steps and calorie-burn rate to better inform an athlete’s recovery and nutrition decisions, as well as a data-rich training companion providing detailed graphs, sport-specific displays and power meter integration.
The new Spartan Sport Wrist HR uses Valencell’s patented PerformTek biometric measurement technology. According to Valencell’s internal testing, Spartan Sport Wrist HR provides market-leading accuracy, delivering data within 5 percent of a chest strap, 89 percent of the time.
For demanding conditions such as in swimming, or in outdoor sports that require wearing the watch on top of a sleeve, it is possible to pair the watch with a Bluetooth smart chest HR strap, such as Suunto Smart Sensor belt to track heart rate.
Durability and sport expertise
The Spartan Sport Wrist HR is handmade in Finland with robust casing, mineral crystal glass and a stainless steel bezel. Battery life up to 12 hours with Power Save 1sec GPS fix rate delivers good GPS accuracy in training mode. The watch features a highly durable color touchscreen with a wide viewing angle and high-contrast visibility in bright sunlight. In addition to 80 sport-specific activity modes, all Spartan watches feature fully customizable sport mode screens. With GPS/GLONASS tracking, FusedSpeed™ and built-in accelerometer, Spartan Sport Wrist HR accurately tracks training and provides versatile insights on the athlete’s progress, both on-watch and in Suunto app.
The RRP price of the Spartan Sport Wrist HR is 499€ and it is available in three colors: All Black, Blue and Sakura. Read more about the Suunto Spartan Sport Wrist HR at suunto.com/spartansportwristhr.
